Local Services hires Service Partnerships manager

Jesse Kent is the new Service Partnerships manager for the Department of Local Services.

One thing that’s different about King County’s new Department of Local Services is the Service Partnership Agreements it’s making with other King County agencies. The agreements will allow Local Services to serve as a “one-stop shop,” helping residents and businesses in unincorporated areas connect with county services while also gathering information about those services.

On March 25, Jesse Kent joined the department as its Service Partnership Agreement Manager. He’ll oversee this part of the new department’s approach, managing working relationships with other King County departments and looking at the data they collect to support continuous improvement. John Taylor Confirmed as Department of Local Services Director

The Metropolitan King County Council on Monday gave its unanimous approval to the appointment of John Taylor to lead the newly formed Department of Local Services that is set to begin operations at the beginning of the year. Taylor, appointed by County Executive Dow Constantine in October, now formally serves as the director of the department that will better coordinate and deliver direct services to the nearly 250,000 people who live in unincorporated King County. John Parrott named director of King County International Airport

John Parrott (shown here), who has four decades of experience in the aviation industry, has been selected as the airport’s next director as part of a highly competitive, nationwide recruiting effort. Parrott will begin his duties on January 14, 2019.

2017 in review: New Airport runway numbering and firefighting station

The year 2017 was not only a busy one at King County International Airport/Boeing Field, it was also an historic one.

new-runway-numberNew runway numbers: For the first time in a half-century,  the runway numbers at the Airport field were changed to keep pace with the earth’s shifting magnetic field. The numbers are tied directly to our location in relation to the globe’s magnetic poles, which create the magnetic field that directs compasses and other navigational devices. 2017 in review: Construction and new branding for the King County Water Taxi

By any measure, 2017 was one of the busiest years on record for the King County Water Taxi with new construction, new branding, ridership pacing last year’s record numbers, and recognition with two national awards.

Pile-signingConstruction begins on future Water Taxi facility: King County Executive Dow Constantine joined Governor Jay Inslee, Washington Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary Amy Scarton, and other transportation leaders to celebrate the start of the five-year Seattle Multimodal Terminal at Colman Dock project. Attendees had the opportunity to sign a steel piling that will be used to support the future home of the Water Taxi at a 5,000-square-foot, weather-protected Passenger Only Ferry (POF) facility on the Seattle waterfront. Fleet’s waterless carwash contract saves 33 gallons per wash

The “spray on, wipe off” method is the latest and most environmentally sustainable way of washing vehicles, saving 33 gallons of water per car wash, and the Fleet Administration Division (Fleet) is a leader in this effort.

Fleet recently finalized a five-year contract with Eco Service USA for fleet vehicle cleaning, after using their service on a pay-as-you-go basis for the last year. The new contract is already helping King County tackle climate change and reduce its environmental impact. Record number of bidders for Fleet Administration spring auction

King County Fleet Administration held its version of a spring garage sale last month, but customers weren’t shopping for gently-worn sweaters or  antique dishware. Instead, bids were taken on scores of tractors, autos, vans, pickups, trucks and heavy machinery.

Fleet Administration holds two auto and heavy equipment auctions each year, one in spring and one in fall. Both are on Saturdays, and both are open to the general public as well as to nonprofits and government agencies and employees. Here’s an inside glimpse at what you might see there:

Great customer service takes great employees. That’s why employee engagement is one of the keys to the program of continuous improvement at King County.

The 2016 King County Employee Survey is now underway, and in the video below Transportation Director Harold Taniguchi is among the County leaders who explain why the survey is important to them and how they will act on the results.
