Fairwood celebrated its 60th anniversary in grand, community fashion.

Hundreds of people descended onto the free event at Petrovitsky Park this past Saturday, which was soaked in either rain or sunshine, depending on the hour.

The day began with a 5K fun run, followed by a welcome ceremony featuring King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn, Department of Local Services Director Leon Richardson, King County Parks, members of the Fairwood Community Group, among others.

The event featured vendors offering an array of food, treats and goods. Partygoers enjoyed live music, family activities such as face-painting and a bouncy house, and a free Big Backyard Movie screening of “Zootopia 2.”
