The first draft of the planning document that will help guide the future of Fairwood for the next 20 years is available for public review.

King County’s Department of Local Services is pleased to announce the release of the first draft of the Fairwood Subarea Plan. This first draft – known as the Preliminary Plan – will be available online for public review through September 26, 2026. The plan represents an important milestone in planning for the future of this community and reflects input gathered from residents, stakeholders, and partners over the past year.

The plan is designed to guide the next 20 years of growth in a manner consistent with the King County Comprehensive Plan. It outlines community priorities and establishes a long-term vision for land use, housing, transportation, parks, environmental stewardship, economic development, and community services in the area.

Review the plan and share your feedback

Community members are invited to review the draft plan and share their feedback during the public comment period. This is the first of two opportunities for public input before the plan advances to the King County Council in 2027.

Please visit the Fairwood Subarea Plan website to view the Reader’s Guide and preliminary plan and use our online form to enter your comments.

Your voice matters

Community feedback is essential to ensuring the plan reflects local priorities and values. As the saying goes, “Nothing about us without us.”  Whether you’ve been involved from the start or are just getting acquainted, now is the time to weigh in.

Following this public comment period, King County will refine the plan and release a second draft known as the “Public Review Draft”. Additional opportunities for community input are anticipated in 2026 and 2027.
