King County’s Department of Local Services is offering two free events all about home improvement! Meet home construction industry vendors, as well as King County Permitting staff in a more relaxed setting and learn more about the process to improve your home!

Two dates and locations to choose from:

Tuesday, August 25, 2026, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Skyway Resource Center (Skyway area); 12610 76th Avenue S; Seattle, WA  98178

Tuesday, September 29, 2026, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Technology Access Foundation (White Center area); 605 SW 108th Street; Seattle, WA  98146

Each event includes a Vendor Fair, a Permitting 101 information session, and a time to talk to King County’s Permitting staff. Guests are welcome to participate in any or all of the activities. No appointments needed!

There is something for everyone at every stage of improving their home, from information gathering to early research for an upcoming project to beginning a project right away.

Vendor Fair

There will be a home show-style display with multiple vendors from the home construction industry. They will be available to discuss services they could provide for your residential project. The vendor fair is open to anyone who lives in the King County area, you do not need to be a resident of unincorporated King County to attend.

  • Home improvement stores
  • Green building suppliers

Residential Permitting 101

Each event will offer a permit-related info session at 6:30 p.m. King County’s Department of Local Services Permitting staff will present “Residential Permitting 101,” an overview of the residential permitting process for unincorporated King County. There will be time for questions and answers at the end. The presentation is free, and no registration is required.

King County Permitting Staff Support

Technical review staff will be available to help with questions about your projects for your home, property, and/or land uses, along with King County code requirements and permit information. This is an opportunity for residents to meet with the Permitting staff to discuss their specific property and/or home improvement proposal for unincorporated King County.  This is also a chance to view maps, codes, forms, and handouts. Staff support is free and no appointment is needed.
